The Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart. AWD, turbo 4 banger, came with a stick or a DCT (for the 2007-forward generation).

Anybody ever have one? They came with the 4B11 (per wikipedia) and made 160ish hp stock (but it’s the same family engine as the Evo has, so it’s probably pretty tunable?). They also existed as hatches.

Why am I just now learning that these exist?

I thought the NA was 160 and the turbo was in the 240 hp range. Good luck finding one. I think they were produced up to 2012 or so.

That sounds more right. There’s a DCT one for sale nearish to me with lower miles, $10k. So a bit high for true barga in status, but that’s a price from a buy here pay here lot. So real value is probably 7-8k, which I think is decent for something with power and features in the same range as contemporary WRXs.

I know I’ve heard some negative things about them, but I can’t recall the specifics. The hatch seems like it should be a cool car:

Some recent Jalopnik article was telling that Lancer sales numbers were negative in January. Apparently it is some statis tics trick but I would guess that Lancer hasn’t been selling very well during its last years. S o finding   good ones might be challenging.

These were all DCT autos only. I remember back when they were new they were ragged on pretty bad in the automotive press for using basically the same suspension as the lower spec Lancers and handled much worse than the WRX of the time. They were also as expensive or more than a WRX so they didn’t sell as well. The engine uses a different turbo and cam than the Evo though it is the same block. So  it would take a lot of money just to tune the engine up close to an Evo and you’d still have to sort out the suspension.

These were, basically, Evo X-lites. They served well until Subaru got their shit together and de-softified the 3rd-generation WRX. IIRC, it’s the cheapest way to get Mitsubishi’s trick Active Yaw Control (AYC).

From what I can gather, they weren’t bad cars, but the WRX and Focus ST stole a bit of their thunder in the later days.

I had a Ralliart Sportback for a weekend and had a blast driving it. Unfortunately, the  interior is very cheap next to a GTI which I had test driven the same day. It is supposed to be very easy to get big horsepower out of the Ralliarts but good luck trying to find one with low mileage. They were pretty expensive when they came out and most are pretty beat up.

He said SORT the suspension, not completely ruin it.
